Tom's Music Background

Tom is a veteran player not only in Austin , but nationwide. He began playing trombone professionally in 1967 with Ashley Alexander’s Band. In the 1970’s, Tom pursued a music degree at the University of Michigan , Navarro College , and North Texas State University. In 1973, Tom added upright bass, electric bass guitar, and backup vocals to his credits. 

During the 1970s, Tom was fortunate enough to perform with some of the great touring “big bands,” including Stan Kenton Band, The Louis Belson Band, Doc Severenson, and Tom Jones.

He was a founding member of the band Tupelo and worked with several bands and artist through the next three decades, including Mike Collins, The Doug Thomas Duo, Joseph and Theresa Brunel, Turner and Silverman, The Yahoos, Barry Coggins, Monkey on the Bed, The Eminators, Eddie Bertran, and Brandon Raines.

Through the years, he has performed at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and at Carnegie Hall in June of 2006.

 

Tom's Musical Influences

His musical influences are diverse, ranging from Louis Armstrong and Dave Brubeck, to the Beatles, Chicago, and Crosby Stills Nash and Young.

 

Tom’s Projects:

In addition to the Diamond Simon and the Roughcuts, Tom performs throughout the Austin and surrounding areas with The Lewis Clark Cook Expedition and Dawn Maracle.
